The Lichen Genus Evernia in Iran 

The genus Evernia comprises five fruticose and sub-fruticose lichen species worldwide. Some species, particularly those found in southern Europe—especially in France—have significant commercial importance. Various sources have documented the extensive use of certain Evernia species in the cosmetics and personal care industries.

In Iran, only two species of this genus have been reported: E. prunastri and E. mesomorpha. Phytochemical studies have shown that key secondary metabolites in this genus include atranorin, evernic acid, divaricatic acid, and usnic acid. E. mesomorpha is primarily rich in divaricatic acid, whereas E. prunastri contains higher levels of evernic acid. These compounds typically accumulate in the medulla and cortex layers of the thallus.

One of the main reasons for the economic value of this genus is the presence of evernic acid, which is widely used in the perfume industry. However, according to reliable sources in Iranian traditional medicine and pharmacopoeia, this genus does not have a history of medicinal use in Iran. Moreover, its distribution within the country is very limited. Due to the high sensitivity of E. prunastri to air pollution, it is only found in specific areas of the northern and northwestern forests of Iran.

جنس Evernia شامل پنج گونه گلسنگ بوته‌ای و شبه‌بوته‌ای در سطح جهان است. برخی از گونه‌های این جنس، به‌ویژه در جنوب اروپا و به‌خصوص در کشور فرانسه، از اهمیت تجاری بالایی برخوردار هستند. در منابع مختلف، کاربرد وسیع برخی از گونه‌های Evernia در صنایع آرایشی و بهداشتی مستند شده است.

در ایران، تنها دو گونه از این جنس با نام‌های E. prunastri و E. mesomorpha گزارش شده‌اند. بررسی‌های فیتوشیمیایی نشان داده‌اند که متابولیت‌های ثانویه‌ی شاخص در این جنس شامل آترانورین، اورنیک اسید، دی‌وریکاتیک اسید و اوسنیک اسید هستند. گونه‌ی E. mesomorpha عمدتاً حاوی دی‌وریکاتیک اسید است، در حالی‌که E. prunastri بیشتر حاوی اورنیک اسید بوده و این ترکیبات در لایه‌های مدولا و کورتکس تجمع می‌یابند.

از مهم‌ترین دلایل ارزش اقتصادی این جنس، وجود متابولیت اورنیک اسید است که کاربرد گسترده‌ای در صنعت عطرسازی دارد. با این حال، بر اساس منابع معتبر دارویی و طب سنتی ایران، این جنس کاربرد دارویی بومی نداشته و پراکنش آن نیز در کشور بسیار محدود است. همچنین، به دلیل حساسیت بالای گونه‌ی E. prunastri نسبت به آلودگی هوا، این گونه تنها در نواحی خاصی از جنگل‌های شمال و شمال‌غرب ایران یافت می‌شود.
